Argentine Road Workers Hold Assemblies Over Lack of Salary Increase

Buenos Aires, November 21 (NA) – The Road Workers and Affiliates Union of the Argentine Republic (STVyARA), led by Graciela Aleñá, will hold assemblies in all districts of the country and maintain a permanent state of alert, within the framework of the collective bargaining negotiations they have been holding with the Secretariat of Labor since last week.

Following an inconclusive meeting and the scheduling of a new hearing for next Thursday, November 27, at 3:00 PM, road workers are urgently demanding a salary update, as they have not received any increase since November 2024.

Aleñá headed a virtual meeting with the commissions, delegates, and affiliates from across the country, where the state of the collective bargaining talks was presented. It was pointed out the "serious context of defunding of the organization and without a salary update since November 2024", which directly impacts "the pocket of each road worker and worker", learned the Argentine News Agency.

In this regard, the union leader stated: "When I started working on the salary issue, I did not imagine that there were so many workers and workers below the poverty line. Today I tell you with total clarity: it is terrible the number of comrades and comrades who are in a situation of extreme poverty".

In this sense, she highlighted that "we cannot look the other way" and that "we must be present, organized, and more united than ever". In the same vein, she affirmed that from the union they must "maintain a real commitment to the workers and workers", and the need to "call for assemblies in every corner of the country, to inform ourselves, organize ourselves, and define the steps to follow in this struggle to defend our rights in each workplace".

It should be noted that, through a series of presentations made by the union to the Justice system, they managed to open the bargaining table on October 29 of last year.
